Bori Sanctuary

Establishment: 1975
Area of the Wild Life Sanctuary - 646 Sq.Km.

PRINCIPAL FAUNA

Fossils Tiger, Panther, amber, Blue Bull, Chital, Barking deer, Four-horned antelope, Bear Chinkara, Bison, Wild boar, Wild Dog, Hyena, Wolf, Crocodile etc. Species of joint squirrels found only in this area and birds of many species may be also seen here.

Kuno Sanctuary

INTRODUCTION
Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary was notified by Government of Madhya Pradesh vide its notification No. 15/8/79/10/2 dated 16-01-1981. The total notified area of the Sanctuary is 344.068 Sq. Km. Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of Kuno Wildlife Division that was notified by Government of M.P. vide its notification No. F-25/36/2002/10-3 dated 08-04-2002 under the administrative control of Divisional Forest Officer, Kuno Wildlife Division, Sheopur (M.P.).Which inturn under the control of Chief Conservator of Forest, Lion Project, with head quarter at Gwalior as in charge of the ongoing Asiatic Lion Re-introduction Project in Kuno Wildlife Division. Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary has been identified as the most suitable alternate home/habitat by the WII, Dehradun for the re-introduction of the Asiatic Lion from Gir Forests, Gujarat.

CLIMATE
Kuno has a moderate climate regime which is slightly arid in nature. The average annual precipitation is 760mm, most of which precipitates between the end of June till September. Winter can be classified between October and mid of January where temperatures usually approach zero degrees centigrade. Frost is not uncommon in the winter whereas in December and January, the minimum recorded temperature in about 6.3 degree centigrade. Summers in this area take the temperatures to another extreme. May being the hottest month, temperature can soar up to 45 degree centigrade and above.

FOREST TYPE

According to the Champion and Seth classification, Kuno lies under the Northern Tropical Dry Deciduous forest with qualities IV A and IV B.

The forests under this sub-group can further be classified into the following types;

  • V 6/c-2 Northern tropical dry mixed deciduous forest 2
  • V b/e-1 Anogeissus pendula forest
  • V b/e-2 Boswellia forest

Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary area was the erstwhile shooting block of the then Gwalior Maharaja.

Gangau Sanctuary

The Gangau Sanctuary constitutes of territorial forests of the present North and South Panna Forest Division to which a portion of the adjoining Chhatarpur forest division was included later. The reserved forests of the Park in Panna district and some protected forests on Chhatarpur side were the hunting grounds of the former rulers of Panna, Chhatarpur and Bijawar princely states in the past. The reserve is located on either sides of the Ken River which rushes from south to north through the Lower Vindhyan Formations within the park.

PENCH NATIONAL PARK (TIGER RESERVE)

The Pench National Park is named after the Pench River, which flows from north to south through the park. This river constitutes the district boundary of Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh in the upper region and State boundary with Maharashtra State in the lower region. This area became the 19th Tiger Reserve of India in 1992. The Tourist traffic is experiencing a very fast growth in this park.

The Pench National Park which constitutes the core of the Tiger Reserves was notified in the year 1983. The total area of the park is 292.85 sq.kms. The total area of the Pench Tiger Reserve is 757.85 sq.kms.
